Clapham Common is 220 acres of high ground above the Thames flood plain. Common was split
between the manors of Battersea and Clapham, developed into a green space for recreation
in 1877. During World War I & II it was also used for military purposes, such as training
center and site anti-aircraft guns. Now this has lots of facilities and attractions such
as foot ball pitches, tennis pitches, fun fairs, circuses, rallies and children’s
entertainments.
