London Markets : Covent Garden
London Covent Garden area is popular for shopping and dining. There are number of shops, restaurants and bars located here. History of Covent Garden started in year 1630s when this was developed by 4th Earl of Bedford. Inigo Jones is the architect who design this Piazza and the main building was build in year 1830.
This was a large fruit and vegetable market up to the recent years. Now this became a popular shopping area for every thing.
In year 1960s there was a plan to demolish the buildings and fruit and vegetable market was relocated to Nine Elms in year 1973. Now this is call as New Covent Garden Market. But the demolishing plan was changed because of the public huge outcry.
Later on the renovation process done for the existing setup and
developed up to today’s level. Today this is not only a popular shopping center, but also
you can get theaters, street performances, jugglers, mime artists and many more attractive stuff.
If you are visiting here, don't forget to visit London Transport Museum and Royal Opera
house located near by. Visitors also get number of restaurants and cafes offering quality
food.
